Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane and his cousin are expected to reach a plea agreement and avoid charges related to an incident with a cab driver, according to a report in the Buffalo News.
Patrick Kane, 20, and his cousin James Kane, 21, were charged with felony robbery and other misdemeanor counts for a run-in with cab driver Jan Radecki, 62, in the early morning hours of Aug. 9 in Buffalo.
The Buffalo News reported two likely scenarios: the Kanes pleading guilty to lesser charges such as harassment or disorderly conduct; or an adjournment that could result in the charges being dropped. Neither scenario likely would involve jail time for either one of the cousins, the paper reported.
"I think everything is going to be wrapped up by the end of the week," a law enforcement source told the Buffalo News. "All parties are working in that direction."
The News also reported that Radecki wants a public apology.
What do you think - will he man up and give a proper apology? Or will money buy him out of it?
An Erie County, N.Y., grand jury dismissed the felony robbery charge against Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane and his cousin James, but indicted both on lesser charges. The indictments on assault in the third degree and theft of services are misdemeanors, and a harassment indictment is considered a violation-level offense.
Fair enough. While I don't think they should get off the hook, felony charges seemed a little harsh.
"Because I've put myself in being in the wrong position at the wrong time, I've caused a lot of pain for my family, my home town of Buffalo, the city of Chicago, the Chicago Blackhawks and obviously, the great fans we have here in Chicago. And for that part, I sincerely apologize."
So Patrick Kane is apologizing for "that part", the being in the wrong position at the wrong time.
What does that mean?
He's sorry for being drunk in a cab? Because everyone knows that once you're drunk in a cab, you're bound to choke the crap out of the cab driver. Or by the "wrong time" does he mean he should have waited until the Olympic Orientation camp was over to beat on the cabbie?
Maybe he can't apologize for "the other part" because of the pending legal proceedings. I truly hope this is the case because that apology was seriously lacking.
Players will do anything to get on my 30 dirty players in 30 days feature. But Patrick, couldn't you just have crosschecked someone?
According to the Buffalo News, Patrick Kane has been arrested for robbing and beating a taxi driver.
[Patrick] Kane, 20, and James M. Kane, 21, were arrested at about 5 a.m. on Eastwood Place, off Main Street near Canisius College, according to Buffalo police reports.
The two allegedly punched the cab driver and grabbed money they had handed him after he told them he didn't have 20 cents in coins to give them their change, the report said.
Their fare was $13.80 and they handed the driver $15, according to a report.
