With 3565 penalty minutes in 1407 games, Dale Hunter is second in all-time NHL penalty minutes. Averaging over a minor penalty a game, it was fair to say you could expect to see something illegal from Hunter every time he stepped on the ice. He was delivering headshots
like this one on Gord Murphy before the league even called them headshots. And he was not ashamed to
defend himself with his stick.
Hunter's most memorable incident was in the 1993 Playoffs against the New York Islanders.
Late in game 6, Hunter attempted a his pass in front of his own net and it was picked off by the Islanders Pierre Turgeon. Turgeon walked in on net and scored - essentially eliminating Hunter and the Washington Capitals from the playoffs. Not happy with his pass, Hunter followed Turgeon across the ice and checked him into the boards from behind while Turgeon was celebrating the goal.

Make note of how long Hunter waited after the play had stopped to hit Turgeon. I counted one-dirtyplayer-two-dirtyplayer-three-dirtyplayer.
Maybe just two-dirtyplayer.
Whatever. Dirty player nonetheless.
