NHL.com has their 30-in-30 schedule posted. You can find their article on the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as previous articles here.
You can spot him at every game. He's the wide-eyed, crazed Maple Leaf skating around the ice, taking offense from everything and ready to take on everyone. He's Crazy Tucker. And he's Toronto's dirtiest player ever.
Darcy Tucker has a reputation for being crazy. In a 2003 game against the Ottawa Senators, Tucker jumped into the Ottawa bench and started attacking Chris Neil. Apparently, Neil had spat at him. Or at least that is what he said after the game to reporters. Although, at his suspension hearing - Tucker was suspended 5 games for his antics - Tucker admitted that spitting was not reason he charged the bench. When asked why he charged the bench, he simply said "I'm Crazy Tucker".
Ok - The last part was a joke.
But Crazy Tucker is no joke. Well, to the creators of this video he is.
Seriously though, Darcy Tucker is a dirty player with a reputation for going after other player's knees. It all started with this low hit that he gave Mike Peca during the 2002 Playoffs.
While most of us will see this as intent to injure, DownGoesBrown.com argues that it was a clean hit.
"But it wasn't [a dirty hit]. Based on the NHL's rules at the time, it was squeaky clean. The NHL would later add a clipping penalty (which is never called) to try to prevent hits like this, but at the time there wasn't anything in the rulebook that said hitting low was illegal."
Never called? Well, not often called. Unless Darcy Tucker is on the ice. In a Nov 6, 2008 Game, Darcy Tucker attempted to take out the knees of Nick Schultz and was called for clipping. What was worse is that he allegedly told Nick Schultz that he was planning to do it. “My concern is at the end of the second, he tells me he’s going to come and take out my knees, and then he actually does it." said Schultz. "It says everything you need to know about that guy."
Amber: You've said that if you could meet one person, it would be President Bush. Why him?
Tucker: I would like to pick his brain. I think his political views are on the same line as my own. I think the wave of the future is someone who doesn't back down to terrorism.
Watch out Obama, Crazy Tucker's coming for your knees.
