Well I am truly sorry Ottawa. I know that he has only been on your team for a season, but Jarkko Ruutu is going to be your dirtiest player ever. Why do I know this? Because I am a Canucks fan and I watched him play for 5 seasons.
Ruutu is not known for his big violent hits that come with big penalty minutes. Over 497 career games, he has just 860 penalty minutes - not a low number, but nothing extraordinary for a 4th line grinder. What sets Ruutu apart from his peers is his ability to get on the nerves of his opponents and draw penalties. What makes him a dirty player is his disregard for any amount sportsmanship while doing so.
A senior member of the NHL Actors Guild, Ruutu is a magnificent diver. Just ask Alexi Kovalev who had the best seat in the house for
this act.
Ruutu is also the master of the "who me?". In a game against the Rangers, Ruutu kept Sean Avery out of the play for an extended period of time by
"accidently" stealing his stick.
When it comes to annoying his opponents, Ruutu will stop at nothing. In a 2009 game, Ruuto got under the skin of Buffalo's Andrew Peters by, well, getting under his skin - literally.
He bit him.
When
reminiscing about his career before an exhibition Game in Stockholm, Ruuto said “At least I have provided the folks with circus entertainment; given them something to talk about.”
Don't worry Jarrko, that's not your only accomplishment. You also made my all time dirty player list.
