NHL.com has their 30-in-30 schedule posted. You can find their article on the Minnesota Wild as well as previous articles
here.
Derek Boogaard is regarded as one of the toughest guys in the NHL. He has scored 10 points in 200 games with the Minnesota wild while racking up over 400 penalty minutes in the same timeframe. There is no question as to what is role is. He is on the team to fight, protect his team and to
occasionally elbow people to the head.
And now his role has diversified. Boorgaard has become a mentor for young kids who want to learn to fight. Boorgaard runs the
Derek Boogaard Fighting Camp for kids.
Kids as young as 12 years old can sign up for the camp for a mere $40. Included in the entry fee, a tee shirt splashed with fake blood and an introductory videotape of Boogaard's most ferocious beatdowns.
According to Boogaard, the camp "[teaches] kids how to protect themselves so they don't get hurt on the ice."
Surprisingly enough, some kids missed the message.
(Wild Boards) Rheal Rouault, a 16-year-old from St. Brieux, Saskatchewan, drove 3½ hours to Regina. Rouault plays midget hockey in the Center Four Hockey League, which he says permits five fights a season.
"I did pretty good, but I want to be able to really clean up," Rouault said. "So I thought I'd come out here and these guys will help me do that."
Derek Boogaard may not be the dirtiest player, but no doubt his camps will produce some. So I'm giving him the nod as the Wild's dirtiest player.
I wonder if
Todd Fedoruk has considered taking the camp?
