A Sports Illustrated poll of 324 players that is to appear in this week's issue has Anaheim Ducks defenceman Pronger and Dallas Stars forward Ott in a tie [for the league's dirtiest player].
Ott has even taken enforcement to a whole new level: teaching himself to swear and trash-talk in Russian, Swedish, Finnish, German, French, and Czech just to “blab” at opposing players in their native tongues. A sure-fire way to inspire poor decisions on their part when tempers are beginning to flair.
"Dallas Stars forward Steve Ott has a Monday date with Colin Campbell, the National Hockey League's chief disciplinarian, to explain how he gouged the eye of Travis Moen during a post-game fight on Saturday afternoon."
Ott scored 43 goals and had 45 assists in 53 regular-season games last year [with the Windsor Spitfires], then added six goals and nine assists in 13 playoff games. Unfortunately his temper got the best of him and he was suspended for two games after headbutting an opposing player.
With five seconds left, Steve Ott went after Kris Draper from behind and punched the Wings' veteran centre in the head. Ott got roughing and misconduct penalties.
Is Steve Ott a dirty player? Well, you and Brandon Worley might be still on the fence, but the clip below shows where Joe Thornton stands.
