NHL.com highlights the strong Calgary defense core in their latest 30 in 30 installment.

"[Calgary] has a top-four defense corps of former Norris Trophy finalist Dion Phaneuf, Bouwmeester, Robyn Regehr and Cory Sarich."

It's worth noting that Calgary will be strong defensively this year.

And speaking of defensemen, who was the dirtiest defenseman ever to play for the Flames? I'll give you a hint. He was also the dirtiest player to play for Calgary, one of the dirtiest players ever to play in the NHL, and quite possibly the dirtiest player to ever lace the skates up for Team USA.

His name is not only synonomous with "dirty", but also with "career ending cheap-shot".

That's right, Calgary's dirtiest player ever is Gary Suter. No surprise here.

Gary's stats sheet at boasts the Calder Trophy in the awards section. Here's a few more achievements he is known for.

1. Ruining Canada's 1998 Olympics and Paul Kariya's career all with this one stupid play.

2. Embarassing himself, the sport and his country at the 1987 Canada Cup by giving Andrei Lomakin a two handed slash to the face.

3. According to www.oilersheritage.com, being the primary cause of Wayne Gretzky's career ending back problems.

"Gretzky received a serious back injury—which would hamper him for the rest of his career—in the 1991 Canada Cup, thanks to a vicious hit from behind from American defenceman Gary Suter.">

4. Being a dick. Again and again.

He may be in the Hall of Fame, but Gary Suter is high on the Armchair Pools Blog list of dirty players.
