Games from Feb 20 have all been loaded.

Yet another quirky international scoring rule.

Patrick Elias scored in the dying seconds of the Czech Republic's Feb 19th game against Latvia. He scored into an empty net while the Czech's were shorthanded. NHL.com reports this as a EN-SH goal. Empty net, shorthanded. Makes sense to me.

However, the IIHF has not counted this goal as a short handed goal. They mark it as an ENG (empty net goal) in their boxscore and show Elias as having 0 shorthanded goals in the player statistics for the Czech Republic.

I assume this means that the IIHF does not count shorthanded goals if they are scored into an empty net - but I have not been able to find anything to confirm or disprove this theory. In the meantime, our system will match the IIHF statistics and not count this goal as shorthanded.

So if you have Elias on your team, and your pool awards points for shorthanded goals, you have something to gripe about.

If anyone has any info on EN-SH's in international play, feel free to post.

When does the box style pool end? Is it all the way to the end of the gold medal game or once the playoff games start? What does GR (games remaining) meen then? Thanks Scott

The pool goes right up to the gold medal games.

Our games remaining column uses the schedule to determine how many games each player has left. So it will update once the round robin is over and the schedule is known.

We use this column in our NHL regular season pool to give people an idea of how many “games-in-hand” they have on other poolie.

Not as useful in a tourny like this where the schedule is not known until a day or so before. Also, once the round robin is over everyone’s GR will be 1 until they are eliminated.

In case you have not received kudos for setting this up – thank you!! It has been a lot of fun for my group (a lot of people in my pool are first timers). The setup and the entire process has been awesome. I know it isn’t hockey but here is a vote that you set up pools for the World Cup this summer!!!

We have considered branching into other sports and the World Cup was an opportunity we have been tossing around. I wonder how many people out there would be into this …

Setting this format up for World Cup would be fantastic! I would definitely run a pool on here if you did that!
